Whether or not to purchase a water mill

Is there anywhere one can find out about history of flooding in an area and whether or not a particular property has flooded in the past.

We are looking to purchase a water mill and understand that usually the living accommodation is on first floor. Does that mean that basements can/or usually flood and should not be converted to accommodation?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hi flower_mad, firstly welcome to the forum. have you tried contacting the local Maire's office or even the cadastre. Where is your nearest large town? We had a property built in Quercy Blanc 3 years ago and all relevent information was supplied. Perhaps there are other sources you could look at, I am sure the more learned users of this forum would be able to point you in the right direction, but Im sure a letter/e-mail to local Maire will help.
