This story is almost unbelievable. My father lost the key to his Renault Megane so I took the other key which he had been given, to Cahors to have it programmed. They told me I had to order another key 106euros. Ordered. The local garage then said it had to go to the Renault garage in Cahors with the car so the two could be programmed together. We went the other day and the car was in the workshop for an hour and they said it couldn't be done and they would have to have the car back for two to three days.
Today the garage rang to say the computer in the car needs to be replaced at a cost of 700 euros + 100 euros for three hours labour so we are almost up to 1000 euros for a key which is absolutely outrageous. I am so angry and feel they are just taking the micky now. Any comments on this or solutions or advice would be very very welcome. My poor father..his blood pressure is going through the roof!

You're right - I don't belieeeeeve it!

How can a lost key require the replacement of a computer??

Why didn't the spare key work straight away?

The spare key didn't work unless it was programmed. it opened the car door and switched the engine on but the car could not move. Then the garage told us that there was a problem with the Renault Megane years 2001/2002 and only programmed keys could be used. Since posting this, my father has decided to get rid of the car entirely and trade it in for something else but definately not a Renault!!!!!

Eeek I need a second key for my Espace.

I knew it was going to cost over 100€ and can understand why the two need to be programmed together, but a new computer??? Sounds like they are out to rip you off IMHO
